Shakespear Regional Park
Part 2

Lookout Track

In 1883, Mr W H Shakespear purchased 800ha at the tip of the Wangaparaoa peninsula.
The family homestead built in 1910 is now the YMCA Lodge.  During World War II, the
the army acquired 130ha on the north-eastern side of the peninsula as this was considered
an important defence site during the war.  The Auckland Regional Council purchased this
area in 1967 from the Shakespear family.  The images that follow were taken on the
60 minute return Lookout Track.

Quote for the week

Photography to the amateur is recreation, to the professional it is work,
and hard work too, no matter how pleasureable it may be - Edward Weston

Not the best of photos but at this stage I'll take what I get.
The New Zealand Pigeon, or Kereru in Maori, is the largest pigeon in
New Zealand - 51cm, 650g.  A noisy swish of wings is distinctive
in this bird with a possible lifespan of 10 years
